Sir:-
With reference to your letters Nos.49104/1921 and
47968/1921 of the 26th ultimo and 4th instant, I am directed
by the Marquess Curzon of Kedleston to transmit to you, herewith, for the information of Mr.Becretary Churchill,
copies of the latest reports received from His Majesty's
Minister at Peking and His Majesty's Consul-General at
Canton on the position at Macao. It will be seen that every
effort is being made to tranquilise the situation and
arrange a modus vivendi.
2. As regards the nature of the instructions to be
telegraphed to the Governor of Hongkong I am to request that
in view of the difficulty of gauging the situation accurately
and promptly here he should be instructed to keep in close
touch with His Majesty's Minister at Peking and to be guided
in
B.ny crisis by his advice.
